1776

1776 is a global incubator and seed helping startups transform industries that impact millions of lives every day, including education, energy & sustainability, health, transportation and cities.

As part of the original design-build team at 1776, No Kings Collective created two original murals (Boxing & Ads) that layered ideas of traditional Americana with themes of disruption and innovation. The Boxing Mural remixes a traditional 1950s boxing mural to depict a faux-ad for the famous duel between Alexander Hamilton & Aaron Burr. Playing with American history, it exaggerated the tradition of competition and communication key to succeeding in the startup landscape.

For Ads, No Kings Collective wheat-pasted vintage ads from issues of Time-Life Magazine between 1939-1950. Using black and white distressed images, the ads subverted the theme of Americana by highlighting the changes in American values and cultural transformations of the last half century.

Additionally, No Kings Collective designed & built a 3D actualization of 1776’s logo & traveling signage to accompany the global Challenge Cup competition.
